Thank you both for your informative and timely suggestions. Now, next time the resident geek emerges from his latest game of Starcraft I'll get him to check things out.
My favorite way of avoiding viruses is to get lots of rest, avoid excessive stress, and stay home out of the cold and away from generic humanoid carbon units that often serve as reservoirs for viruses. :-)
