  1. Competent anti-virus program. (McAfee has an intrusive interface.) Load the weekly upgrades. Scan your hard drive every month anyway.

  2. Competent firewall. (ZoneAlarm)

  3. Do not open executable attachments.

  4. NEVER use Mickeycrap Outlook. Use Eudora.

  5. Don't be stupid.

  6. Anybody who routinely patches Wincrap is playing Russian roulette with a semi-auto pistol. Have a 10-15 GB C: partition with ONLY Wincrap on it. Put everything valuable on higher drives. When (not if) you have to reformat C:, you won't lose everything.

  7. Blessed are the paranoid for they will have made backups.
