If everybody went down to the ocean and scooped up a mere 55 gallons, that would be a third of a trillion gallons or a mere drop in the bucket (less than a third of a cubic mile) toward saving Funafuti. The Pacific ocean averages 3 miles deep. The simple solution is to make Funafuti a nuclear test range and have done with it - or send Jimmy Carter over there to build habitats for humanity and have everybody flee in revulsion.
How much personal committment can you stand?
