One supposes that the movie treatment of Soylent Green (Philip K. Dick's Make Room! Make Room!) is therefore impractical. Pity.
The downer moo cow with bovine spongiform encephalopathy is not the big issue. The hot topic is the source of contaminated feed and where it in turn obtained its poxy brains and spinal cords for incorporation into its illegal cheap product.
Uncle Al had a co-worker who spent a spell as a meat packer. Ground beef is the waste trough of meat processing. Unsalable crud is ground up and was - before things got interesting - extended with "white meat" (otherwise valueless cattle brains and spinal cords).
