"Organisms that live at 80oC or higher are known as hyperthermophiles.... To date, about 20 genera have been described.... The official temperature record is currently held by an organism known as pyrodictium occultum that reportedly emerged fit and well after autoclaving at temperatures of 121oC for an hour. However, John Parkes of Bristol University claims to have evidence for microbes living under the seabed at temperatures as high as 169oC.
