Unfortunately current is not a measure of speed. It is a measure of the number of electrons which pass a given point in a given time. Transformers generally work by changing the voltage, and the current then changes in the opposite direction from the voltage. If the voltage goes up, the current goes down. While you can change the current in a circuit by changing the voltage you still can't cause the electrons to exceed the speed of light.
