lactose intolerance is common among many people groups (ie asians are ~95% lactose intolerant)...this is a figure for adolescents and most particularly adults since congenital lactose intolerance is fortunately a rare occurrence...infantile lactose intolerance does occur but is almost always temporary
this is hardly limited to the asian continent or the indian subcontinent...the vast majority of adults worldwide suffer from some degree of lactose intolerance
lactose intolerance is a result of insufficient physiological manufacture and distribution of the enzyme lactase and is not to be confused with "milk allergy," an entirely different affliction
