Re: Removing your head (DA Morgan)

....
Sticking your tounge out is a greeting in Tibet...
And thumbs up is flipping the birdie in Iraq...

Puts those happy kids in the pictures from Bagdad in a whole new light, neh?

It's rather interesting in most of Africa and the middle east the thumbs up is an obscene gesture... but it's really hard to tell if someone is using the Americanized version of the happy thumbs up or the f@*k you version of africa/mideast...

...So...are they flipping Saddam the bird... or saying, good job Saddam?.... Hard to tell. I'd bet the former, though.

On the one hand, we have "Thumbs up" as a positive gesture quickly gained popularity in the U.S.A. ... However, in most of the Middle East and parts of Africa (notably Nigeria), this symbol can be obscene. from http://www.getcustoms.com...

Then on the other hand... or thumb... we have Thumbs up This gesture, expressing connotations of "I am winning," historically is offensive to many Arabs. After the Gulf conflict, however, Middle Easterners of the Arabian Peninsula adopted this hand movement, along with the OK sign, as a symbol of cooperation toward freedom. from US's Defense Language Institute ... Yes, apparently there is such a thing as a US Defense Language Institute, and no, I don't know how much of your money they waste on average every year.

No science in there... but it's still interesting at 3 AM, isn't it?
