(213.116.58.139)the UK GM CROP DEBATE gets underway tomorrow (11/7/03)
Tomorrow is an important day for the pro GM lobby, which is primarily the USA, and did included Canada until recently.
The Canadian farmers have now put a hold on using GM crops (is it too late?) Stating that GM modified crops become "the difficult to eradicate 'weeds' many years later".
The UK has investigated the pro's and cons of GM, more thoroughly than any other country. By growing and testing a variety of GM foods at widely dispersed secret sites.GM foods per se, are not allowed to be sold in the UK. Should any imported packets of processed food contain any GM additives (eg Custard powder, cake mixes-the packages have to be clearly labelled)
The net result being that the British public are running scared, even though the Goverments results are not out until tomorrow.Tomorrows results are widely expected to state, "There is no economic advantage to the UK, as long as the Supermarkets dont touch it"
Also "whether insects do better or worse in a GM world" will be known.
I will update the GM DEBATE, as it proceeds.**I must admit the Canadian farmers statement is forceful.
