Yes, but we can't expend all our energy in keeping the Earth just as it is. I believe that increasing our own power to respond, (which decreases if we try to maintain the Earth as it is) is the best chance we have. If we have enough power we can respond to whatever may happen. It might not be global warming that eventually threatens our existence. However having hundreds of different soap powers doesn't seem to do much for humanity so we could do things differently. I think conservation taken too far is a form of death or stagnation, not taken far enough creates a meaningless existence.
