I have great respect for Hawking just as I have great respect for a great many with minds far greater than mine. But this is science not religion. And I really don't care one iota what Hawking may or may not think about non-science subjects.
One universe no more implies divine intervention than do two. And two no more than four, ad infinitum. Any god capable of creating one universe can create as many as he/she/it wishes. To claim otherwise would be as meaningless as the original statement attributed to Hawking.
To quote Turok who works closely with Hawking "such theories are not as economical or predictive, since there’s no way for one “multiverse” to affect another." Which is another way of saying that they are not science.
