I dont think the University of Alberta, would give much credence to this article...prehaps the
'Science Daily' should be taken to task for their lurid headline -First Genetic Response In Animal Species to Global Warming-

How can they use (for the first time) Qalitative Genetics they admit they use for fixed root plants
and port that over to include free roaming mammals
like the Red Squirrel?
I always thought the movement of animals is mainly
governent by food supply and especially warmth and light. ie. Animals migrate down a mountain in the winters cold. Animals migrate, ever slowly northwards if the weather proves to get consistently warmer.

Nothing to do with qualitative (plant) genetics
(whatever that really means) I'snt it far more likely thatthe squirrel is taking advantage of its inbuilt capability of moving to a less competitive food source where the weather permits?
We all do it mosquitoes, and killer bees are just two examples of species slowly moving northward.
