Science is empirical. You may generate all the theory you like, but it is only science if it is demonstrable and not falsifiable.
When accepted theory is confronted by a new quantitative challenge, somebody has to look, hence the parity Eotvos experiment that compliments traditional composition studies. Nothing is sacred in science except the process - and if a better one is proposed and demonstrated, it will be embraced.
