My take on this, for many years, has been that when we look out at the universe with our telescopes we are like an iron atom in a diamond looking out at the other inclusions and imputities. The crystalline carbon is invisible.
My take on the so-called Big Bang has been that we live in a Calabi-Yau space, or something like one.
For those not familiar with Calabi-Yau I would suggest you can read this from Duke University or if less technical I would suggest reading "The Elegant Universe" by Dr. Brian Green (Columbia University professor of mathematics and physics). For the subject matter it is a reasonably easy read. Read the entire book but pay special attention to his discussion of "conifold transitions" which you can find in the index. And his discussions of how Calabi-Yau allows transitions between different physics within a single space. I equate a "different physics" with creation of dimensions, space, time, and matter.
