Passing a stream of moist air over a platinum catalyst screen will result in the production of industrial quantities of mixed nitrous and nitric acids without the addition of anything else. The water vapor in the air, plus the nitrogen and oxygen, do all the work. It will also produce enough heat to bring the Platinum catalyst bed to a bright orange glow after some time. If you have something in the vessel for the Acids (very strong mineral acids) to react with that resulted in a gas being produced, it could conceivably pop a stopper, cork, or tightly wound cotton plug some distance like a potato from a potato gun.
