Just curious,when you say "cold fusion", are you referring to the Pons and Fleishman experiment?
It is not exactly clear to me when it comes to your first posting what is the experiment you are talking about but it sounds very much like the Pons&Fleischman attempt from about 15 years ago (less the cotton ball being thrown in the air).
