Retail peroxide solution is, IIRC, 3% which is useless for such an experiment. I'm not even sure that the 30% solution we used to use in AR grade in the lab would do it. 90%, rocket fuel, would do it with ease.

The problem is that 30% or above can near instantly burn skin and blind so I am hesitant to tell anyone I don't know anything more such that it might encourage them to put themselves into the hospital or worse.

BTW: Any peroxide 15 years old is an aqueous solution with a high dissolved oxygen content at best. Peroxide solutions are not all that stable. The only reason the bottle hasn't expanded most likely is due to leakage.

If you want to know more about peroxide I'd suggest you get it from ChemAbs or the Merck Index. Not knowing you I can't and won't say much more.

And given a good strong peroxide with a platinum metal catalyst. Electricity would not be required to initiate a potentially dangerous reaction.
