"The rare earth elements are more likely platinum or palladium that might be catalytic in such an enterprise."
Rare Earths are the lanthanides, elements 58-71 inclusive. Platinum and palladium are late Iron Group elements.
Jargon exists to foster terse unambiguous professional communication. A spewing fool cannot Shannonize jargon into sense. It targets those outside the discipline who are recruited into the cause on faith. BTW, you can't macroscopically break the three laws of thermodynamics, either:
1) You cannot win.
2) You can only break even on a very cold day.
3) It never gets that cold.Forget spontaneously separating water into its elements over a catalyst. Science and religion are orthogonal.
