I wasn't thinking of a change as Weinberg discusses it.I would almost venture to say that the inductive character of physics at least, if not science, together with observational consistency, make such a radical change virtually impossible, or at least very improbable.
I was refering to the fact that, at least for the time being and for the last hundreds of years, there has been a sort of a feedback mechanism that has kept science from ,let's say, "going astray", a sort of a self correction mechanism, which I thought I illstrated with the JJThompson atomic model.
