It is relevant, when it comes to quantizing gravitation. And what Fotini did/does is indeed extremely important for quantum gravitation.But I am not so sure anyone here would like to talk about loop quantization or spin foams. It is pretty messy,especially when it comes to calculations.
For who wants more details on her work, or Smolin's,or Rob Myers, go to www.arxiv.org, make a search by name, all fields, all years.
Or alternatively, Smolin has a book, quite nicely written, "Three roads to quantum gravity", which is pretty nice to read.
