Didn't people "ward" that off with a garlic/vinegar wash? I might be thinking of black plague.

PS: I attempted to correct my post to you before it was archived but it was blank. The software they're using is *notoriously* buggy. Anyway, I looked at a few saved posts from back in the days, and it was a poster named "Janus" I was speaking to. Sorry about the mixup.
