I agree that 6000 years is still far from believable at this point. Just pointing out that ionization occurs all the time in rocks and, if the decay rate depends on balanced charge, then the decay rate would be expected to vary in nature. (Note, if you read between those lines, I'm in the camp that doubts the decay rate varies but I'm open to the possibility and the consequences of that possibility. The consequences, btw, extend far more widely than just a 6000 year old earth discussion. We learned to control fission. Now if we could learn to control decay rate with the same precision...)
