Although Pioneer 10 & 11 are travelling to opposite ends of the Universe, they are still both within the suns solar wind and grav influence
Since their minute slowing effects both, one might assume that the effect was caused by some unknown (mirror?) force.
Maybe.....But I can still give a logical reason for its possible cause.
Nobody has yet ever received such a distant doppler recorded Radio signal that has PASSED BY the Sun. I say 'passed by' and not grazed the Suns surface, since dependant upon where the Earth is in relation to the Sun, it is quite possible that the Radio signal becomes ever so slightly curved, or stretched, due to the Suns Grav field.
This does not happen when we send out control signals to our Planetary probes, since the Sun is always 'behind us' as we require line of sight to operate small gas attitude controllers on our Jupiter,Mars, Venus probes. The tx/recieved signals do not pass close to the Sun. Also probes normally send back data...not a doppler speed reading thats activated by our outgoing earth signal.
Gravity effects a radio wave, in the same way as
a light beam. With a light beam we need to graze the Sun to see the effect. With Radio waves that we record from distant parts of the universe, we accept as perfect the measured frequency of those Galactic radio signals, after taking into account the motion/rotation of the Earth.
The Pioneer probe signals are different, we know EXACTLY the frequency of its transmitters.....the
signal comes back minutely distorted (time wise).....Which is the only way NASA guages that Pioneer has slowed, (or as they say being tugged)
It just might be due to its slight curvature due to its Radio signal passing by the sun one its long journey back into our Solar system base?
