I agree with your feelings about NASA but that is neither appropriate or relevant at this time.
The family and friends of those on the shuttle and those on the ground should be our primary concern.
And no matter whether NASA is a "corrupt exercise in political patronage" or were the highest most perfect exercise of the scientific method and fiscal responsibility ... these things have happened in the past and will continue to happen in the future. That is the nature of the beast. And it is the price we willingly accept as we follow the path of our destiny to the stars.
