Re: The strange Legacy of Paul M. Brown Ph.D (Mike Kremer)

Once again Mr. Morgan shows his total ignorance. Tritium is a proton and 2 neutrons. It is three times heavier than a hydrogen atom. Hence the name "heavy water". First strip the oxygen off. Next ionize the tritium (yes, strip all one of the electrons off each atom) and fire the resulting nucleus through an electric field and you can easily collect the tritium on the other side because it will be deflected only 1/3 as far off path. Problem is this takes a lot of energy. But a whole lot easier than stripping one electron off U235/U238 and trying to separate them based on the 1% difference in weight.

The membrane idea Morgan's "friends" speak of (I wonder if he can give us the name of even one of these close friends?)is another good idea. Tritium has a larger cross section due to the extra 2 neutrons. Again stripping the oxygen off first is almost a requirement but I thought that was supposed to be real easy since we are going to base our economy on hydrogen fuel which is exactly the same thing.

Personally I prefer firing atoms down a tube that branches off in a tree. You can separate hydrogen, deuterium, and tritium all in one step.
