I'm assuming that since we don't know how dark energy is expanding the universe that we would have no concept of how it could expand solid matter. And again since it takes vast expances of space to see it's effects we would not see any effect locally. It seems more logical to assume it exists because we can see it and we should assume to be part of exactly what we see. Over the life time of the solar system it accumlative affect might have some meaning locally.
