I found it "unsettling" that the extra neutron needed to convert I-129 to I-130 could magically appear from simple elecromagnetic radiation.

The first article is total B.S.

The second article is interesting in what it doesn't say. Yes, tritium is a problem. It is hard to contain and easily incorporated into living cells to their detriment. Disposing of it is a good thing. What I find "unsettling" about that article is the lack of information that tritium (and the similar deutirium) is the fuel needed for fusion reactions. They keep telling us that fusion is the salvation of the universe but forget to tell us that the quantity of dangerous radioactive material is far higher in a fusion plant than in a fission plant. And the radioactive hazard is far higher due to the size of the atoms you need to control.
