I found a collection of published articles on mirror matter theory:

Many of these articles are published in physics letters B, so it seems to me that the theory is sound. Besides via gravity, mirror matter can interact with ordinary matter via photon-mirror photon mixing. This explains the craters. The article about Eros has not been published yet, but is available as a preprint:
