Nylon 6/6 is a polymer of hexamethylene diamine and adipic acid, while Teflon is polytetrafluoroethylene. The two substances are not chemically related.
As for the choice of materials, I found this site. It claims that "It [nylon 6/6] is also used as an engineering material in bearings and gears due to its good abrasion resistance and self-lubricating properties." So it sounds like the material shouldn't be an issue.
