Re: Oldest Star In Our Galaxy Found (m00nbeep)

SDAI is the author of the site which "moonbeep" linked to above. I don't know if moonbeep IS SDAI, but it doesn't really matter. The linked site claimed to discredit the big bang theory. I think this claim is in significant error. The following letter emailed to the site's author expresses my concerns:

Dear SDAI,

You claim to be interested in "global education", yet your page entitled "Big Bang Busters" is very
misguided and inaccurate. The main problem is, you set up a "straw man" which you can proceed to easily knock down. Unfortunately, the "big bang straw man" you set up is a total mischaracterization of big bang theory. In misinforming students in this fashion, you are doing them a disservice.

The standard big bang theory is actually a very successful theory, and it has many adherents - not because it is "fashionable", as you claim, but because, among other things, (1) the theory is consistent with the evidence and (2) the theory made predictions which have subsequently been observed to be correct. Your webpage says that the theory makes claims which it does not, and I am certain that the astrophysical community would hope that you would correct these errors at your earliest convenience.

The big bang theory will have wide acceptance until a better theory comes along. If you have a better theory consistent with the evidence, please see that it is published in a peer-reviewed journal so the scientific community may benefit from your insights.

Best of luck in your future web developments.
