I should explain a little more,
instead of having a dam causing a height or header potential for hydro power usage (like Hoover) dig a Chunnel hydro tunnel (mega jobs and profits for the company who dares and cares!) along side the river, all invisible to the eyes, tap in to water at a high level mark whenever there is a healthy supply, like Niagara, the river floes without causing damage to the ecosystem. At the end of the hydro chunnel place the generators, water having a head charge, of lets say many meters will produce very clean electricity. Comprende?

Economies aint my bag, but I am a lot better than a Worldcom or Enron accountant or CEO.
Person buys 20 solar panels for his house roof top = jobs for the US solar panel plant company. Minimum required maintenance and upkeep to the hydrogen generators = $$$$$ to the producer and techs maintaining the system, just like you pay your utilities company right now, or may be you already have those solar pannels?

Lightning rods placed at ideal locations may extract some of the few thousand lightning hitting your area. Mega Capacitors (to be invented???) holds power for usage.

Imagination Bobba, is limitless and we can go much further away from this Nuclear power plant everywhere concept. Cheers
