Re: What are the parameters? (Eudaemonic Pie)

You gosh-darned reductionists! (Meant fondly...)

Belief has more than one definition, e.g.:

1 : a state or habit of mind in which trust or confidence is placed in some person or thing
2 : something believed; especially: a tenet or body of tenets held by a group
3 : conviction of the truth of some statement or the reality of some being or phenomenon especially when based on examination of evidence

It is in the mind of #3 that I posed the initial response to our dear Richard Stover. The belief depends on the observer's position: I can scientifically measure that a beaker is 50% full, but what makes it seem half full to one person and half empty to another? BELIEF, for the quality of the state of the beaker is a subjective perception based in relativity, not a physical measurement.

(Hmmm...observer...position...relativity...could it BE? NAaaah!)

It is belief that affects physiology in the situation that I outlined in my paper. Placebos be damned, let that straw man arguement drop!

In contradiction to what Richard Stover said, I say that belief and Science are related when it comes to human tissue systems...take it from there....
