Re: Check your math there Paul (paul baughn)

energy required to lift it 10 meters in a gravitional field = 1000

energy recovered if it is allowed it to fall 10 meters in a gravitional field = 1000.

energy in = energy out.

Bobba
in science we include all elements in an occurance.
to neglect the kinetic energy is to neglect a major portion of the total energy of a system.

as the total energy of a system is the potential energy and the kinetic energy.

therefore the total energy of a system itself.
would include the amount of input energy that is given the system to perform work.
and the amount of output energy that the system
produces in the form of work.

in my system
I have 1 unit of energy that moves up 10 meters.
and 1 unit of energy that moves down 10 meters.
and 1000 units of energy that move away from
a point of reference.
and 1000 units of energy that move towards
that point of reference.

1 up + 1 down
1 away + 1 towards

equilibrium.

when I use the kaplan type turbines to extract energy from the flow of fluid.

I convert 1 unit of kinetic energy to mechanical energy.

this energy is equal to the reduction of the kinetic energy in the flow of fluid that moves away from the reference point.

the kinetic energy of the fluid that moves toward the reference point is also decreased due to the reduction of the flow of fluid to the reference point.

once again equilibrium.
however only concerning the energy of the moving fluids.

1 up + 1 down
1 away + 1 towards

as mechanical energy is taken from the flow of fluid there is a decrease in the amount of fluid that is required to maintain the flow.
this is due to a decrease in the rate of fluid discharge.
this decrease in the rate of fluid discharge is due to the added obstruction within the pipe.

which in turn decreases the amount of energy required to to maintain a given fluid elevation in the 10 meter verticle pipe and maintain the flow of fluid through the 1000 meter pipe.

if only a degree of kinetic energy is extracted through mechanical means then a stabilization of fluid flow will be achieved.

if the 10 meter verticle pipe were higher than 10 meters and the fluid were originaly pumped to a elevation higher than the 10 meters.
yet the fluid level inside the verticle pipe were
at 10 meters in height.
and a constant volume of fluid were pumped up into the verticle pipe.
then when a load is placed on the shaft the elevation inside the pipe would increase thus delivering an added differential pressure that would give an additional potential energy which would boost the energy of the flow of fluid through the 1000 meter pipe.

the amount of energy that is given the system to produce work remains the same.
