Dr Paul Butler of the US Space Agency announced today that the Lick observatory had found a solar
system having the best match to our own.
Since it is 41 light years away in the constelation of Cancer, astronomers cannot tell if it has an Earth type planet. But it has a Sun of similar size and type to ours, and a Jupiter like planet, the size and distance as our own. They speculate that conditions for life would best be supported on a small planet within its Jupiter like orbit, and is the best find for life so far.
But within ten years, space bound telescopes will be able to see any smaller planets it may have.
