I was looking at it from a different angle. I agree it could be something to do with the sun. It simply seemed like he was dismissing the possibility of man-made pollutants ('automobiles and air-conditioners' he quotes) causing it on the basis of it sounding ridiculous to him. The fact that he's only a radio talk-show host made me think he was just saying that to justify his own opinion/belief.
