Roseanne, I once saw a documentary about patients who had had hydroencephalitis as children, but had survived to adulthood: cranial X-rays revealed that only a thin shell of the brain remained(the remaining part was similar to a hollowed out circle with apparently nothing in the hollowed out space but spinal fluid. The program did not specify what was in that space, but on the X-rays, it appeared to be empty. The really striking thing was that all these people had above average intelligence.
