the good thing about science, and reality, is that they just don't alter themselves to the blowing of political winds

that is true enough about science and reality

the problem is that there is a distinct difference between "science and reality" and "scienTISTS"

scientists (ie humans) are often blown by the political winds (including the politics of academia and university hierarchies) and perhaps even more by the philosophical wind that all men are so very capable of generating :-)
