FYI, I purchased my first personal computer 25 years ago. $1,500 (those were real dollars!) for 16K memory and an 80K floppy. The "monitor" (actually a terminal consisting of monitor and keyboard) cost an additional $850. A year later I sprung for the $1,800 printer with the lower case option even though the lower case didn't include descenders. I still have that machine and printer in functioning order awaiting a museum contribution when in the need of a tax deduction. The PC did not start with IBM.
