Re: Consciousness? (y)

It's possible the development of consciousness helped humans to form bigger tribes which required a deeper understanding of human nature to achieve. A precurser to this might be when the old were protected by the tribe. It would be a new and powerful influence on understanding for a once proud leader to look back on life and see how the new young leader behaves. In the animal kingdom deposed leaders are killed, or usually die soon after, or are banished. I think consciousness developed because of the success of larger tribes over smaller ones or single families. I would think there is no exact point when consciousness started and that it developed slowly only becoming a distince trait when it had reached a certain level.
