i don't know that they didn't consider that, but you right, it wasn't mentioned
however, the seas were thought to be salty in some measure even in antiquity
by no model that i am aware of were they ever considered freshwater
in these studies, salt prevented the macromolecules that are necessary for life from forming
i inferred, perhaps wrongly and then again perhaps not, that the amount of salt that affected them was pretty minimal
which opens up other questions...but...
