I have some friends who have raised two children (seven and five now) who have never consumed animal food products and they are both bright, intelligent, healthy, happy kids and the boy excels in sports. I agree with the fact that the parents are responsible for the poor health of their child and there is no excuse for that, but I don’t think vegetarianism is the only cause. They must not be following a responsible vegetarian diet.
I have experimented with vegetarianism and found that most of the time I felt healthier. It is a very difficult regime to follow. By the end of the first year however, I was anemic. I continued to modify my diet based on some new information I received and things got a little better. I am no longer a practicing vegetarian mainly because it is so hard to get real world information on what you need to eat to stay healthy.
