Correcting the latter part of my earlier posting.
And almost directly quoting Feynman:The moon is 60 times as far away from the earth's surface as we are; we are 4,000 miles from the centre, and the moon is 240,000 miles away from the centre. So an object at the earth surface should fall, in one second, 1/2inch x 3,600 (the square of 60) which is about 16 feet. Which is the verified rate of fall at the surface of the earth.
