I think microwaves cook from the middle outwards. When we boil water normally it heats (or causes motion) from the bottom and it works its way to the top jumping off in steam. I imagine in a microwave there could be an area of water at the base not as heated (or active) as the top. A disturbance of the liquid when taking it out of the mircowave could suddenly bring this cooler (less active) liquid in contact with the now hotter (highly active) liquid and cause a sudden jumping of the liquid. Just an opinion.
