Or maybe you would float away? I'm just unsure, it sounds like you may have something, but if the object next to you is especially more massive than yourself, it seems likely to me that you would be what floated away when you gave it a push. Or maybe the both of you would float away and neither realize you're both moving away, not just the other one.
HOWEVER, I bet you're partially right, because I remember reading about how we actually alter our own orbit when we use the planet's gravity to slingshot sattilites and the like.
