I don't know about other mammals, but I know it happens in cats. We used to have some cats that had 8, 9 or even 10 toes on each front foot, and sometimes extra on the back as well. Some of them were jsut little thin claws, with very little muscle and not very functional. Sometimes, however, they were surprisingly functional, and the extra claws on the sides were sometimes used as deftly as we use our thumbs. I have seen them actually pick up items, like balls and toys, and hold them in their paws and inspect them, turning them over and around, before throwing them.

I don't know specifically about any other animals besides cats, however.
