All of these suggestions seem... um.. a little extreme.

Why don't we just genetically engineer all pole-vaulters with the necessary modifications so they can just step over the bar? ;)

Anyway, there's absolutely no danger of fatalities here in the UK - they never get high enough to cause themselves serious damage :p
