They weren't so primitive that they didn't recognize the health problems. Thus the large number of dietary rules intended to avoid them. Come on now ... they weren't drinking beer rather than water just for the buzz.

I absolutely refuse to believe that 2,000 years ago people were capable of learning to not eat pork ... but incapable of learning to cook it properly.

There is no reasonable alternative to one of the following three conclusions.

1. The diety didn't know bacteria existed.
2. The people writing the book and pretending it was written by the diety didn't know bacteria existed.
3. They knew and didn't care because they enjoyed watching millions die needlessly.

Pick your poison.
