Did you do the math on the resolution of Hubble to see if this was even possible? I did. The resolution at the distance of the moon is about 25cm. You might be able to find it. Interesting idea though. And if you can see a 10 inch rock at the distance of the moon, imagine what you can see if you looked back at the earth. If you can see 25cm on the moon and there were no atmosphere, you could see 0.4mm on the earth.

Even with this resolution the problem becomes identifying objects. For example, http://terraserver.homeadvisor.msn.com/image.asp?S=10&T=1&X=2327&Y=16767&Z=16&W=2 Can you see the 25 foot sailing yacht? Hint, it is just slightly above and to the right of the center of the picture but not in the water. If you look closely you can see the shadow of the mast. If you still can't see it I will be taking some pictures of it this month and can post some on the web.
