Re: Endangered natural resources (bio_ladi)

Fossil fuels and their usage have caused global warming at a rate of 0.6 C over the last century.

Assumes facts not in evidence. While the earth has experienced this increase, there is little convincing evidence that fossil fuels effected this increase. It is little more than speculation at best. Given that the majority of this increase occurred in the early part of the century, and that the use of fossil fuel increased in the latter part of the century, skeptics would suggest that not only are fossil fuels not causative, but that the contention that they do lacks correlation as well.

While a mere 33.08 degrees F may not mean too much to you it meant a great deal to the Golden Toad in Costa Rica which is now extinct.

Where is the 33.08 number coming from?

The only known species to be extinct, thus far, due to global warming.

Assumes facts not in evidence. The natural habitat for this little toad is limited to a tiny little geographic region in the highland forests near Monteverde, where the climate is governed by the frequent formation of clouds and mist. Activist assert that the mist frequency "has declined dramatically since the mid-1970s", causing the extinction, but they failed to otherwise establish a link, and ignored more likely causes such as Chytrid fungi. Additionally, they claim that the warming of the oceans and the atmosphere caused this reduction. In short, they turned the mountain mist into political smoke.

The Arctic and Antarctic have seen an even higher increase, which has resulted in a 40% decrease in Arctic Sea ice, which means less hunting for animals such as polar bear and walruses.

Forty percent? Where are you getting your numbers? Where did the ice go? How much ice is that? References?

Global warming is making the adaptation for all except the most mobile of creatures difficult (man excluded).

You’ve yet to establish global warming is even occurring. Once you do, assuming you can, you must then establish an anthropomorphic cause. Once you do, assuming you can, you must then suggest a viable solution that will do less harm than good. Good luck; you’ll need it.

This is resulting in things such as trees, coral reefs & agriculture to suffer in larger numbers than ever before.

Saying it is one thing, demonstrating it is something else entirely.

Global warming can be defined as an excess of energy trapped within earth's atmosphere.
Anyone can argue that this is all speculation we have noticed this temperature increase climbs at the same rate the species are suffering.

Correlation, if there is any, is not causation.

Mere speculation?

Yes.

Perhaps it can be seen as purely coincidence but why take the chance that it is coincidence and then we realize it isn't when it is too late to reverse it?

This is called the Precautionary Principle and it is not only a flawed philosophy, it is a dangerous one. Without knowing the causes of problems that exist, it is at best useless, and at worse hazardous, to attempt to effect a solution. We don’t even know global warming is occurring and yet we are attempting to mitigate by means of a protocol that has no possibility of doing so even it it were occurring for exactly the reason people guess it is. Furthermore, this protocol will likely cause far more death and destruction and suffering than would the warming, even it it were occurring for whatever reason.

The Golden Toad may not be very important in the eyes of some but it has its place in the food chain and from there the effects spread ever outward.

I’m sure it does but given that global warming is likely not the cause of its demise, it’s a moot point.

It is further projected that due to global warming within 30-50 years most of the world's coral reefs will disappear.

Projected by who and using what means. They can’t predict the weather a week in advance, how is it you think they are going to predict it 30-50 years in advance. All of these “predictions” are based on iffy assumptions, flawed models, and politics.
