Like good and evil have interchanging meanings depending on what side you're on.
Only in the absence of any absolutes, and you can't be absolutely sure of that...Hmmmm? 8)
So forgiving implies the existence of not forgiving, and assume both are of use.
...er...yeah, from the news story...forgivenss has use in keeping us healthy, and the flip side of that coin is that unforgiveness prolly tends to make us sicker than we might otherwise be, though that is an empirical assumption not addressed directly.
Science is simplistic, but it's all that many people have....
